Passer Passer - Photoshop Brushes

After a very educational workshop with Chana Messer, I've been messing around with some Photoshop brushes to enhance the look of my thesis film. Not loving the results quite yet, but it's getting somewhere...

Post Care

I made this silly little comic for Champoy's upocoming Post Care Volume IV comic collection. It's based of a nightmare I had while living in Japan and trying to figure out the Japanese toilet.

Mr. Blue Sky

MR BLUE SKY from Patterson+Reckinger on Vimeo.

A music video that I was fortunate to work on earlier this year is finally online for viewing! Two of my professors directed a team of students from USC animation department to create the official music video for this legendary Electric Light Orchestra song. I was lucky enough to animate a singing technicolor Jeff Lynne. I also created a few characters in the city scenes. It was a dream to work on such an iconic song with two very talented directors and a team of talented students.

Nitrogenase and You

Here are some stills from a short film I recently worked on with Simon Wilches and Laura Cechanowicz. The video is a collaboration with Chemistry PhD Candy Hwang. It explains her research in Nitrogenase. I created all designs based off of storyboards from the talented Simon.

Millstadt Schlachtfest

I designed this logo for my hometown of Millstadt's annual Autumn German Sausage fest. It was the first time I had worked with my own Dad as a client. The briefing was pretty simple though: "I'd like a pig riding a bike wearing a lederhosen." was his only request. And so here is a pig riding joyously to his own delicious demise, and I've finally created a logo to join the ranks of cannibal animals I saw so frequently in Tokyo.

Sacas Media Stairs - Semi

The second animation I created for the Sacas media stairs while at TBS this summer:

This animation represents the prominence of cicadas (semi) throughout the streets of Tokyo during the summer. After leaving it's shell, cicadas join in flight and land in the city where their noises ring through the streets.
The very beginning of the animation is cut off, but the full original version will be uploaded soon.

Stairs Close-up

A closer look at the Sacas media stairs. Each step contains hundreds of LEDs. The stairs are best viewed straight ahead and squatting down slightly.

Akasaka Sacas Media Stairs

My first animation for the Akasaka Sacas media stairs is now up! I created this in 2 weeks in the CG department at TBS (Tokyo Broadcast Systems). The animation is among a group of short films that loop in the staircase. Each stair contains a series of LEDs. I was given the theme of 'Natsu' (summer). I wanted to show the transition between the rainy season of early summer to the Hanabi (fireworks) that follow. It was a great honor to work on the project! My second animation, Semi (Cicada) will be finished next week and installed later in the Fall.
